Saucy questions, answered
What are Wet Hands mode and Dark mode?
Two switches at the top of every page. Wet Hands mode makes buttons and boxes bigger and spaces them out, so greasy or wet fingers hit the right thing. Dark mode is easier on the eyes on late shifts and follows your device setting until you flip it. Members have their choice saved to their account. If you are not signed in, it lasts for this visit only and nothing is stored on your device.
How do I work out food cost percentage?
Divide the ingredient cost of one portion by the selling price before VAT, then multiply by 100. SaucySums does this for you and takes VAT out properly.
Does SaucySums include VAT in menu prices?
Yes. Tell SaucySums whether you are VAT registered and it suggests menu prices with 20% VAT included, or without VAT if you are not registered.
Is there a free version?
Yes. The free food cost calculator costs a dish with no sign-in and nothing saved. Paid plans save your recipes, ingredients and menus.
How much does SaucySums cost?
Chef Plan is £3.50 a month for 25 recipes, one site and one menu, with menu design and printing, the allergen helper, costing and menu PDFs, the menu dashboard, price-change alerts and the what-if planner. Chef Plan Pro is £9 a month for unlimited recipes, sites and menus, plus smart ingredient swaps with an allergen check, a food inflation projector, nutrition tables and a fact sheet for your customers and staff. No contracts, cancel anytime, and paid plans are opening soon. The free calculator works today, no sign-in needed.
Does SaucySums help with allergens?
Yes. When you add an ingredient, SaucySums suggests its typical allergens from the 14 UK allergens listed by the Food Standards Agency. You can edit them, and they add up to each dish. Brands vary, so you confirm each dish against your suppliers' labels before allergen details print. You stay responsible for the allergen information you give customers.
What is Rapid Daily Specials?
From idea to print in a few blinks. In the members' area, tap Rapid Daily Specials, type each special with an optional price and short description, and add its ingredients. SaucySums adds the likely allergens from the 14 UK allergens, and you tick one box to confirm once you have checked the labels. Then print an A4 Today's Specials board with the date and an allergen line for every dish, or download it as a PNG. Printing, downloading and saving as a picture are free and never count towards your dishes. Tap Save this special to keep one for another day. Chef Plan: print / share unlimited, save up to 7. Chef Plan Pro: print / share and save unlimited. On Chef Plan Pro you can also include estimated nutrition per portion for each special. Included on Chef Plan and Chef Plan Pro.
Does SaucySums show nutrition information?
Yes, on Chef Plan Pro. Nutrition tables per your portion size and per 100g, worked out for you: energy, fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, fibre, protein and salt. Estimated from UK government food data (CoFID), with USDA FoodData Central for some foods CoFID does not list, not a lab analysis. If an ingredient has no data, we say so rather than guess, and you can add your own values from the label.
What is the fact sheet for your customers and staff?
On Chef Plan Pro you can build a fact sheet for your customers and staff: one A4 page per dish, in easy to read English, with every ingredient, the 14 UK allergens highlighted, the nutrition table, portion and price, plus a whole-menu allergen sheet. Front of house can check the sheet instead of guessing.
Can I print my menu?
Yes, on both plans. Pick a template, border, colours and font, add your logo, sections, dietary labels and chef's specials, then print A4 or A5 or make a PDF to download, share or email. Every printed menu ends with: Please speak to a member of staff about allergens before ordering.
