Terms of service

Version 2, last updated 23 October 2026 (draft)

The short version: SaucySums is a costing and menu-pricing tool. Its figures and allergen suggestions are a guide only, so please check them. You own your recipes and data. 1. About us

SaucySums (saucysums.com) is run by Chris Fry, a sole trader in the UK, trading as SaucySums. Business address for legal notices: [CHRIS TO CONFIRM: business or service address, not a home address]. Contact: [email protected]. SaucySums is a new business in its launch phase. We will register for VAT when required. In these terms, "we" and "us" means SaucySums and "you" means the person or business using it.

2. The service

SaucySums helps UK food businesses, such as cafes and food trucks, estimate recipe costs and menu prices, record allergens, print menus and costing PDFs, and project food price changes. Results depend on the figures you enter and are a guide only. You are responsible for your own pricing, tax and VAT decisions; check HMRC guidance or an accountant where unsure.

The free calculator needs no account and stores nothing on your device. Paid plans need an account.

SaucySums is designed for business use. If you use it as a consumer (for purposes wholly or mainly outside your trade, business, craft or profession), you have extra legal rights, and where these terms say so, a term applies differently to you.

3. Accounts

You sign in with Google or Microsoft. We never see or store your password. You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract. Keep your sign-in account secure; you are responsible for activity on your SaucySums account unless it happens through our fault. One business per account. Tell us straight away at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed it. You can delete your account and all its data at any time from your account page.

4. Plans and billing

  • Chef Plan: £3.50 a month.
  • Chef Plan Pro: £9 a month.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Any applicable taxes, such as VAT, are calculated and shown at checkout by Stripe before you pay. The price shown at checkout is the total you pay. There is no free trial. Your plan starts as soon as you pay, with instant access, and renews every month on the same date until you cancel. Payments are taken by Stripe; we never receive or store your card details. Receipts are available in the billing portal.

If a payment fails, Stripe will retry it and we will email you. If it is still unpaid after [CHRIS TO CONFIRM: number] days, your account moves back to free-level access until payment is made. We never delete your recipes because a payment failed.

If you upgrade from Chef Plan to Chef Plan Pro, you pay only the difference for the rest of the current month. If you switch down, you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.

5. Price changes

Our current prices are launch prices and are subject to review. We may change the price of a plan from time to time, for example to reflect inflation, increases in our running costs (such as hosting, payment or email fees), changes in tax or the law, or significant new features added to that plan.

  • Notice: we will email you at least 30 days before any price change to your plan, telling you the new price, the date it applies from, and how to cancel.
  • When it applies: a new price applies only from your first billing date after the 30-day notice period ends. It never applies to a period you have already paid for.
  • Your choice: if you do not want to pay the new price, you can cancel at any time before it takes effect and you will not be charged the new price. Cancelling is free and takes a couple of clicks in the billing portal.
  • Continuing: if you keep your plan after the new price takes effect, you will be treated as having accepted it. We will remind you of this in the notice email.
  • Tax changes: if a change in tax (for example a change in the VAT rate, or SaucySums becoming liable to charge VAT) changes what we must charge, we may pass that change on, with the same 30 days' notice and the same right to cancel.
  • Free months: any free month you have already earned, for example through a referral, is not affected by a price change.
  • Price reductions: if we lower a price, we may apply it straight away without notice.

We will not change a price more than once in any 6-month period, other than for a change in tax. [CHRIS TO CONFIRM: keep or remove this limit.]

6. Cancelling and your 14-day right

Cancel anytime. There are no contracts or minimum terms. Cancel in the billing portal (Account, then Plan and billing, then Manage billing / cancel) or by emailing [email protected]. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for and are not charged again. We do not refund part months, except as set out below or where the law requires.

Your 14-day cancellation right (consumers). If you are a consumer, you have the legal right to cancel within 14 days of the day after you subscribe, without giving a reason. Because access starts immediately, at checkout we ask you to expressly request that we start your plan straight away, during the cancellation period, and to acknowledge that if you cancel within the 14 days you will pay for the service provided up to the point you tell us, in proportion to the month. If you cancel within 14 days, we will refund what you paid, less that proportionate amount, within 14 days of you telling us, to the card you paid with. To use this right, email [email protected] with your account email, or use the model form below. You do not have to use the form.

Model cancellation form: To SaucySums, [email protected]. I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the following service: [plan name], ordered on [date]. Name: [name]. Account email: [email]. Date: [date].

Business users do not have a statutory 14-day cancellation right, but can still cancel anytime as above.

7. Referrals

Share your referral link with a friend who runs a food business. The code is passed in the link itself; we do not set a cookie for it. When your friend pays for their first month of Chef Plan Pro, you both get one free month. Free months are added to the account's next billing period, have no cash value and cannot be transferred. Referring yourself, or using extra accounts to earn free months, is not allowed and is blocked. We may withhold or remove free months gained through misuse, and we may change or end the scheme for new referrals with notice on this page; free months already earned will be honoured.

8. Allergens and food safety

SaucySums's allergen helper suggests typical allergens for common ingredients, based on the 14 allergens listed by the Food Standards Agency. This is a guide only and a starting point. Products vary by brand and supplier and change over time, and we do not check your products, labels, recipes, suppliers or kitchen practices, including cross-contamination.

As the food business operator, you remain fully and solely responsible for the allergen and food safety information you give customers, on menus, labels and in person, and for complying with food law. You must check every ingredient against your supplier's label, confirm each dish in SaucySums before printing allergen details, and review them whenever a recipe or supplier changes. Printed menus always include: "Please speak to a member of staff about allergens before ordering." Ingredient swap suggestions do not take account of allergens, dietary needs or labelling beyond the typical allergens shown.

9. Food Inflation Projector

The Food Inflation Projector shows a projection based on published Office for National Statistics (ONS) data and simple assumptions. It is a projection, not a forecast or a promise of future prices. Real prices can differ a lot. Do not rely on it alone for financial decisions.

10. Acceptable use

Please do not: break the law or anyone's rights using SaucySums; upload anything unlawful, harmful or that you do not have the right to use (including logos and photos); try to get into accounts or systems that are not yours; probe, scan or overload the service; scrape, copy or resell the service or its content; reverse engineer it except as the law allows; use bots to create accounts or abuse the referral scheme; or upload viruses or harmful code.

11. Intellectual property and your data

The SaucySums website, app, software, design, logo, text and blog articles are owned by SaucySums and protected by copyright and other laws. © 2026 SaucySums. All rights reserved. They may not be copied, reproduced or republished without our written permission. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use SaucySums for your business while you have an account.

You keep full ownership of your own recipes, ingredient prices, images and other data. You give us only the limited licence needed to store, process and show your data back to you, and to produce your PDFs and menus, while you use SaucySums. That licence ends when you delete your data or your account. You can export your data at any time from your account page. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them freely without owing you anything.

12. Availability and changes to the service

We aim to keep SaucySums running smoothly, but we do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free, and we do not offer a service level agreement. We may need to pause it for maintenance, updates or security. We may improve, change or remove features. If we make a change that significantly reduces what your paid plan includes, we will tell you in advance and you can cancel; if you are a consumer and the change is to your disadvantage, you may also be entitled to a refund for any period paid in advance and not used. Please keep your own copies of anything important, for example by using the data export.

If we ever decide to close SaucySums, we will give you at least 30 days' email notice where we reasonably can, refund any period paid in advance and not used, and keep the data export open during that notice period.

13. Suspension and ending

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, misuse the service, fail to pay, or if we must do so by law or to protect the service or other users. Where reasonable, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close your account for reasons other than your breach, we will refund any period paid in advance and not used. When an account ends, we delete its data as set out in our privacy notice.

14. Accuracy and liability

We work hard to make SaucySums's figures and allergen information as accurate as we can, but they are a guide, not professional, financial or legal advice. Results depend on the prices and details you enter, and suppliers' products can change. Please double-check anything important, especially allergens, before you rely on it.

If you use SaucySums for your business: as far as the law allows, and subject to the paragraph below headed "What we never exclude":

  • we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, sales, business, contracts, goodwill or anticipated savings, or for any indirect or consequential loss;
  • we are not liable for decisions you make, or prices, labels or allergen information you give customers, using figures or suggestions shown in SaucySums, or for loss caused by inaccurate data you enter;
  • we are not liable for loss or corruption of data, except to the extent caused by our failure to take reasonable care to keep it secure; and
  • our total liability to you for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or £50 if greater. [CHRIS TO CONFIRM: minimum figure.]

Any terms implied by law are excluded to the extent the law allows for business users. These limits are reasonable for a low-cost tool, given the price of the plans and that you are best placed to check your own recipes, prices and allergens.

If you are a consumer: we are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable. If you use SaucySums for your business, the business paragraph above applies instead. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Citizens Advice can tell you more about your rights.

What we never exclude: nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales.

15. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as failures of hosting, internet or payment providers, cyber attacks, power cuts, extreme weather, or acts of government. If this happens we will let you know, do what we reasonably can to limit the effect, and if it goes on for more than 30 days you can cancel and get a refund for any period paid in advance and not used.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law, how SaucySums works, or new features. For changes that matter to paying members, we will email you at least 30 days before they take effect, and you can cancel before then. Small changes that do not affect your rights, such as fixing typos or clarifying wording, may take effect when we post them. The date at the top shows the latest version. Price changes follow section 5.

17. General and law

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. We may transfer our rights under these terms to someone who takes over SaucySums, and will tell you if we do; your rights will not be reduced. You may not transfer your account without our agreement. No one else has rights under these terms.

If you have a problem, please email [email protected] first and we will try to sort it out quickly. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts, and the mandatory consumer laws there still protect you.
